This Dissertation is a contribution to the history of the aristoteleanism during the thirteenth century.
Above all it is an attempt to define the ontological content of the Christian philosophical tradition according to Pachymeris. The study deals with the problem of the existence, to which the anthropological, the cosmological and the theological views of the Christian Philosophical tradition are related.
Pachymeris uses not only Aristolelean but also Platonic and Neoplatonic points and data, which help him construct his ontological system. But except for these elements Pachymeris tries to maintain as well as project the Christian Philosophical tradition.
The Dissertation consists of four parts. In the first part (pp. 34-72) the question of Ideas (Παραδείγματα) and Material things is studied. The second part (pp. 75-106) refers to the «μεταξὺ ὄντα» according to the ancient and Byzantine Philosophical tradition. In the third part (pp. 109-142) , the Plotinian ὑποστάσεις are discussed in the work of Pachymeris. The fourth part (pp. 145-173) is concerned with the critical tradition of the essence of the author in relation to the equivalent of Aristotelis as the difference of the essence (οὐσία) and the substance (ὑπόστασις) in the Byzantine Philosophical tradition.
To sum up, the ontological hierarchy according to Pachymeris, is the following: God (the «ὑπερούσιος οὐσία») is placed at the top and the «μηδαμῇ μηδαμῶς ὄντα» are placed at the bottom (pp. 175-179).
